The Property, Marine and Transport department is led by two partners, Prof Dr Dirk-Carsten Günther and Dr Stefan Spielmann. The team of over 15 lawyers specialise in property, cyber issues, art, transport and marine insurance and are highly regarded by numerous insurance companies for their litigation experience and technical, logistical and business expertise. Many of the lawyers in the team are also members of BLD’s Forensic Claims Center, which is a market leader in handling dubious claims. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the department has been involved in handling a large number of business interruption insurance cases. In recent years, the team have also been regularly instructed in Natural catastrophes insurance as a result of major loss events such as storm Bernd or the floods during the summer of 2021. The team attracted much attention a few years ago as litigating lawyers on the side of several insurance companies in numerous proceedings to defend claims by banks and trading companies following breach of trust by the cash-in-transit company Heros.
