Thomas Mittendorf is a lawyer and partner in the Property, Marine and Transport and Financial Lines departments at the Munich office. He is a lecturer on insurance and insurance supervisory law at Hagen Law School and a Specialist Insurance Lawyer. He has specialised in pre-trial advice and litigation in property, aviation and professional indemnity insurance (including D&O) for many years. He represents insurers in coverage disputes and policyholders in liability disputes. Thomas Mittendorf also assists insurers in fraud defence. In the recent past, he has handled large litigation matters for several insurers in major loss events such as plant closures and disputes due to event cancellations during the Covid-19 pandemic. In this context, his clients appreciate that Thomas Mittendorf, in addition to his work as a lawyer, also has many years of experience as claims manager in Germany and throughout continental Europe on behalf of an international insurer; as a result, he is very familiar with the requirements that claims departments place on the management of cases and the communication they require of their external legal advisors.
